Dressbarn Credit Card Review: A Look At The Offer

dressbarnDressbarn is a popular retail outlet for women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelery. They now offer their own credit card for use in their stores and on their website. Here’s a look at the card’s features, so you can see how it stacks up against other chain cards.

Dressbarn Credit Card Basics

The Dressbarn Credit Card is like many store cards today, in that it can be managed online, including via mobile devices. You can pay your bill, examine your statement, print documents and update your personal information all via the website.

You can complete an application for the Dressbarn Credit Card either online or at one of their store registers, and you’ll know immediately if you’ve been accepted or declined for the card. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age and must supply a government-issued ID and US Social Security number. You will be required to divulge your annual income, and acceptance is subject to credit approval via one of the three major credit bureaus. There is no annual fee for the card.

Dressbarn Credit Card Pros

The Dressbarn card offers a few nice features that might appeal to regular shoppers:

  • 10% off your first purchase with the card in the store or online
  • discount coupons mailed to your home
  • early admission to store sales
  • in-store payment option
  • no extra fee for additional cards

With over 800 store locations across the country and online shopping as well, this is a card anyone could use regardless of where they live. Dressbarn sells shoes, accessories and jewelry, in addition to clothing, and they carry misses, plus size and petite items.

Dressbarn Credit Card Cons

The Dressbarn Credit Card has one big negative that is similar to many other store cards: an extremely high interest rate. At 24.99% interest, the Dressbarn card is one of the highest out there, and this can drive up your balance significantly if you don’t pay the card off in full every month. They also charge a $25 late fee for payments received after their due date, as well as a $10 fee for payments made by phone.

The Dressbarn Credit Card is backed by Comenity Bank, formerly known as World Financial Network Bank (WFNB), a bank behind many retail cards. They are not known for having stellar customer service, and there are numerous customer complaints about dubious late fees, rude telephone operators and issues experienced when trying to use their website. Many card holders suggest using the Dressbarn website to access your account, rather than going through the bank’s portal.

While the Dressbarn Credit Card offers some coupons, these offers, or even better ones, are usually available on Dressbarn’s social media sites too. Unlike many store cards, there are no cash back or rewards points with the Dressbarn Credit Card. This is a big downside, as most store cards now offer this enticement.

The Dressbarn credit card is geared towards applicants with good or better credit. If you have a reasonably high credit score, you may do better with other, lower interest cards. However, if you shop at Dressbarn frequently and pay your card off in full on time every month, the Dressbarn credit card may be a nice convenience for you. It could also help young people with no credit history or people with past credit issues build their scores. Initial credit limits for this card are generally low (in the $500 range), so you would need to make sure it is paid in full every month to maintain your credit bureau debt-to-available-credit-ratio. Otherwise, the credit benefits of owning this card may be outweighed by its drain on your credit statistics.
